VULTURE is a local zine published in Cortez, CO to celebrate our culture and the people who call this place home. Entries for this zine are accepted annually from residents of Montezuma County and publications are produced when our migratory vulture population returns to town (approximately May-October).
Publications are produced in partnership with the Cortez Makerspace. All those who submit entries chosen for publication will receive a special edition copy of the zine they are published in. There is no limit on the amount of entries you can submit.
2027 is our first season of calls for submission and publication, sponsored by the LOR Foundation.
Examples of entries include: poetry, visual art, short story, recipe, opinion piece, joke, sewing pattern, interview, coloring book page, local history, comic strip, tips & tricks, and music compositions. Entries are not limited to this list. We are open to all sorts of creative expression. VULTURE will be a reflection of our local community, so we want your hunting stories and tips, backcountry tales, ode to your favorite video game, interview of your neighbor or grandma, favorite things to forage, a photo from your morning ride at Phil's World, local stories passed down in your family, favorite recipes, etc. We can publish all sorts of visual art including photography, painting, drawing, collage, dried flowers, and so much more! Tell your friends! Use this as an excuse to spend your winter creating.
Entries are currently being accepted through February 28, 2027.
